Last month, I took my two boys (ages 6 and 10) on a sunny, solo-parent trip to Santa Ponsa, Majorca—and it turned out to be one of the most refreshing, confidence-boosting breaks we’ve ever had. With flexible term-time travel as a home educator, we were able to go off-peak and enjoy the best of this family-friendly resort without the crowds.
We flew from London Stansted to Palma, and the flight was just under two and a half hours—perfect length for travelling with children. Coach transfers were included from the airport to Santa Ponsa, which made arrival smooth and stress-free.

We chose Pirates Village, self catering staying in a 1 bed apartment, it was just a short walk from the beach. It had a pool, a mini-market nearby, and a kitchen, which made mealtimes easy. The kids were either in the pool or playing football very day, and I actually got to drink a hot coffee while watching them—solo travel win!

Santa Ponsa is a great spot for younger families. Here were some of our highlights:

- The Beach: Clean, shallow waters, and rock pools to explore.
- Playgrounds: One right by the beach, great for letting off steam.
- Ice Cream Walks: Every evening became a routine—walk, ice cream, repeat.
- Mini Golf & Pedalos: Low-cost fun that gave us structure without overplanning.
There were a few tantrums, one scraped knee, and a lot of sun cream battles—but also: morning cuddles on the balcony, giggles in the waves, and pride in knowing I did it. Just me and the boys.
Top Tips for Santa Ponsa with Kids
- Pre-book airport transfers
- Stay somewhere close to both beach and shops
- Don’t overplan—leave time for rest and play
- Use local supermarkets to cut food costs
- Always carry a beach bag with snacks, sun cream, and spare clothes
This trip reminded me that travel with kids doesn’t have to be perfect to be unforgettable. Santa Ponsa was the first of many—and if you’re considering your first trip alone with your children, this little Majorcan gem is a brilliant place to start.
